Credit Card Debt Scams

Do something for me? Just Google the word “Credit Card Debt Relief”  and see what the results show up. Now type into the Google the words “Credit Card Debt” and see what shows up. Lastly, Google “Credit Card”. Do you see a pattern in the search results? Do you see where the emphasize is?

Well let me give you my opinion of the above result pages. The vast majority of results are about getting credit cards or different types of credit cards when you are already in debt. Yeah -right how does that make sense? You are already in debt up to your eyeballs and you want to get another credit card to consolidate or increase your debt. Or alternatively, you have a history of debt with  credit cards and you find there are so many services that will find someone else who will give you another credit card despite your history of bad debt.

Compare the  above search findings  in another way. How many results do you get where you can obtain informative guidance on how to get yourself out of debt or at least reduce it? Not many compared to those websites about getting credit cards.

Also notice where YouTube results appear on the search page. I have found that YouTube videos are displayed in many search results that are again bias in favour of obtain credit cards instead managing them and getting rid of credit cards altogether.

We are a nation of debtors, spend-holics and credit seekers. Our capitalistic system is skewered towards spending more and saving less. We are taught algebra, literature and sport, but the everyday essential financial knowledge of how to control one’s finances is not given the necessary attention. No wonder a lot of people get themselves in the situation where they cannot pay debts.

Advertising and social norms teach us not only to spend, but to feel good about spending. Even a credit card debt summons does not deter most people from spending more. Society, peers and education instil in us that ‘having’ is more importance than ‘being’
